GAC Extends Agreement with China National Steering Committee of Professional Education of Masters of Engineering
GAC与全国工程硕士专业学位教育指导委员会的合作续约
The PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC) has extended its agreement and memorandum of understanding with the China National Steering Committee of Professional Education of Masters of Engineering (SCME). This agreement, originally signed in March 2008, demonstrates the continued need that Chinese engineering universities have in offering master’s degrees in project management and ensures that these programs are able to meet the quality criteria for eligibility for accreditation by the PMI GAC.
The agreement with SCME, an arm of the Chinese Ministry of Education, helps further the training of much-needed project managers and identifies colleges and universities for consideration for GAC accreditation. Currently there are 104 universities offering master’s degree programs in engineering project management throughout China.
“We are grateful that the SCME continues to recognize the GAC as the quality standard for accreditation in project management,” said Edwin J. Andrews, Ph.D., director of academic and educational programs and services at PMI. “What is even more pleasing is that project management is the most popular of 40 master’s degree programs in engineering schools throughout China according to the Ministry of Education, providing solid proof of the need for trained and certified project management professionals.”
“Our goal is to provide cutting-edge degree programs that meet the needs of students and industry,” said Dr. He Kebin, deputy director and secretary general of SCME and professor of engineering and project management at Tsinghua University, China. “Project management skills across industries are of vital importance to our universities and ultimately to project-led organizations.”
Degree programs that achieve GAC accreditation must demonstrate and meet the GAC’s rigorous global standards of accreditation, which include an assessment of each program’s objectives and outcomes, faculty and student evaluations, on-site and online resources, annual self-evaluation, and proof of continuous improvements in the area of project management education. Sixty-seven project management degree programs at 27 institutions in 10 countries are presently accredited by GAC. GAC accreditation ensures the quality of academic degree programs and their graduates in order to meet the standards of the rapidly growing field of project management.
